KC Timebank

Information about the KC TimeBank

Welcome to the Kansas City Timebank!!

The vision for developing and launching the KC Timebank was inspired by the strong commitment to building a new school in Kansas City that was rooted in equity-based economics. The Kansas City Sudbury School, now doing business at the Kansas City Restoration School, had a bold vision for providing accessible and high-quality democratic education to the KC Metro Area. As a non-profit private school, it is essential that we developed a business model that made this vision a reality. The powerful opportunity found in time banking coupled with multiple other equity economics projects has made the Kansas City Restoration School a truly cutting-edge educational institution.  The Kansas City Timebank is contributing to building the school of the future. All member donations and timebanking activity have an epic ripple effect in our school community that reaches far beyond the KC Metro Area. Our school and integrated timebank are literally changing the world! We are represented in a global conversation to reimagine... reclaim and raise-up the value of learning through timebanking. The Learning Network is a community of practice for timebank coordinators seeking to innovate scalable "solidarity" economics solutions that effectively "raise the value of learning".

The TimeBank traditionally has three main goals:

  • Strengthen the fabric of our community.

  • Serve people and give them another means to serve.

  • Establish new relationships and meet the real needs of our community members.

We recognize that each person has talents to share and that the overall community is strengthened when neighbors help one another. For every hour that you help meet the needs of another member, you earn a time credit for the exchange. This time credit can then be redeemed for services from others, and the never-ending cycle of sharing continues.

At the Kansas City Timebank, we are building additional goals into our strategic plan for our KC Restoration School and our community.

  • Create pathways to equity-based economics.

  • Support access to KCRS through underwriting sliding-scale fees.

  • Engage KCRS families with KCTB rather than a traditional PTA.

  • Engage KCRS students in learning about equity and economics through timebank stewardship.

  • Establish pathways for KC artists and entrepreneurs to offer lessons to students for time credit.

  • Build a vast eco-system of care across the bi-state region that functions to reclaim that value of time for all people.
